~Skating Club of Ithaca~
(formerly the Cornell Figure Skating Club)

Want to learn how to do a waltz jump? A spin? Or would you like to improve your basic skating skills so that you can contribute to your hockey team's success? Want to just get comfortable on the ice? Our Learn to Skate program can meet any or all of these goals. For adults and children.

Sundays 4-5 PM
At The RINK in Lansing
April 28-June 16

The Skating Club of Ithaca (formerly the Cornell Figure Skating Club) has been teaching the United States Figure Skating Association's Learn to Skate curriculum for almost 50 years. Our program introduces basic skating skills for beginners and the more advanced skills for accomplished skaters. The program breaks down into nine levels:

  • Snowplow Sam 1,2,3 (for preschoolers): designed to help younger children develop the strength and coordination to maneuver on skates.
  • Basic Skills 1-6 (for children and adults): These levels of the program introduce the fundamental moves of the sport - forward skating, backward skating, stops, crossovers, turns, etc.

Our goal is to give students the opportunity to achieve their potential within the parameters of the groups lesson structure. We will allow time at the end of each session for students to "test" on to the next skill level as their instructors deem them ready. Along with the skater's growing sense of accomplishment, they will receive USFSA skill badges. Upon graduation from Basic 6, skaters will be invited to skate on the Club's Sunday figure skating ice following the Learn to Skate session.
We are proud to be working with some terrific professional instructors this year:

  • ALEXANDRE CHICHKOV returns as our Head Pro. He is a gifted teacher whose outstanding skating skills serve as an inspiration to all of his students. His credentials are endless, and we are exceptionally proud to have a Junior World Champion ice dancer on our staff.
  • ANNA GOEHNER will be on the ice with us as her schedule with the Ice Theatre of New York permits. She is a USFSA gold medalist in dance and MIF, and a patient and gifted teacher.

Joining Alexandre will be a talented group of Cornell and Ithaca College students. All have teaching experience with the Learn to Skate curriculum and bring enthusiasm and vigor to our program:

Nina Frant
Laura Petes
